Data from the Nurses' Health Study found light-to-moderate cigarette smoking can more than double a woman's risk of sudden cardiac death. For women without heart disease, quitting smoking quickly reduced the risk, which increased 8% for every five years of continued smoking, Canadian researchers reported in Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology.
