The Senate has approved an amendment to the 2013 defense authorization bill that would transfer $45 million from the Defense Department operations and maintenance account to provide funding for applied behavior analysis, or ABA, treatment for military personnel's children with autism when ordered by a doctor. The amendment would remove a previously approved annual $36,000 cap per Tricare enrollee, as well as limits on the number of hours of therapy covered, and it would extend coverage to family members of retired personnel.
