Black women who were sexually or physically abused as children were 34% and 16% more likely to develop uterine fibroids, respectively, a study showed. Researchers noted that having higher coping skills was associated with lower odds of uterine fibroids. The findings, which appear in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, failed to establish a causal relationship between childhood abuse and uterine fibroids.
