DISH Network bid $2.28 billion for Clearwire, topping Sprint Nextel's $2.20 billion offer as the satellite provider continues its aggressive efforts to enter the wireless business. Clearwire plans to evaluate the offer and withhold from drawing on Sprint's financing offer. Analysts scratched their heads over DISH's intent. "It’s hard for me to imagine that what DISH wants is Clearwire. It could be a chess move to get a partnership with Sprint," said analyst Craig Moffett of Sanford C. Bernstein, adding that DISH might believe purchasing Clearwire is its best path to entering the wireless business. DISH offered $3.30 a share versus Sprint's $2.97 bid.
