Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., wrote a letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu asking for a timeline and an explanation for expenditures related to the mixed oxide fuel fabrication facility being built at the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site in South Carolina. "I am very concerned about moving forward with a disposal plan that will potentially cost $15 billion more than other alternatives and has an uncertain chance of success in order to provide $2 billion in electrical power generation subsidies for select utilities and customers," Markey stated in his letter.
