Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski, during an appearance at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, restated the FCC's reasons for auctioning broadcast spectrum, revealed plans to boost Wi-Fi spectrum by up to 35% and said that despite rumors to the contrary, he would not be exiting his post. "I don't think it is a surprise that broadcasters who aren't interested in tendering [spectrum] would rather [the auction] not happen," he said. "But we need to do this for the country. It doesn't make sense in New York to have 28 full-power licenses."
