Data from 55,008 people ages 67 and older showed a link between inflammatory bowel disease and an elevated risk of early or missed colorectal cancer after having a colonoscopy, according to a study in The American Journal of Gastroenterology. Researchers said rates of early or missed cancers in this group were three times as high as among similar patients without IBD, which supports "intensive surveillance colonoscopy for older IBD patients, as recommended by current guidelines."
