A demand for scalability is prompting vendors and users alike to push for cloud standardization, but unlike early Internet pioneers, companies that depend on hosted technologies, such as software-as-a-service, lack a central authority to vet and champion specific protocols. A survey found almost nine in 10 IT workers say cloud standards would benefit their organizations. As a result, the IT community has taken the reins on standardization efforts, through individual vendors and collaborative groups such as the Cloud Security Alliance, though experts say cloud technology may be advancing too fast for these efforts to keep up.
