Policymakers are paying more attention to the idea of extended producer responsibility, and companies that haven't yet should start getting involved, said Scott Cassel, CEO of the Product Stewardship Institute. Awareness is key to company adoption, he said. Some companies "don't understand it that well. They are assessing their business risks. They, perhaps, feel they're not ready for it, and there's more resistance. We're seeing more of that from certain manufacturers to this concept, and they're wondering how this will impact them," Cassel said.
