A study in BMJ found the risk of blood clots in women who underwent in vitro fertilization was 4.2 per 1,000 patients, compared with 2.5 per 1,000 women who conceived naturally. Researchers said overall risk remains small, but blood clot risk in IVF patients was highest during the first trimester.
