A study to be published in Critical Care Medicine found an early rehabilitation program that included physical therapy in the Johns Hopkins ICU decreased lengths of stay by an average 23%, making up for the cost of the program and saving the hospital an estimated $818,000 per year. Study author Dr. Dale M. Needham said early rehabilitation programs are "an example of how we can save money and improve care at the same time."
