Some steps endorsed by the Surviving Sepsis Campaign are not being practiced in emergency departments, according to an analysis in the Journal of Emergency Nursing. "Some of the barriers to initiating the SSC guidelines can be addressed by earlier recognition of patients with sepsis and improving the processes of moving patients to the appropriate level of care," researchers wrote. The measurement of urine output and the use of blood cultures were identified as interventions in need of greater implementation.
