Royal Dutch Shell's drill ship Noble Discoverer and drill rig Kulluk released too much nitrogen oxide during the company's offshore drilling activities in the Arctic region last summer, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The agency said it issued notices of air quality violations to Shell, noting that both ships committed multiple violations. "We have made every effort to meet the permit conditions established by the EPA for offshore Alaska, and we continue to work with the agency to establish conditions that can be realistically achieved," the company said.
