School nutrition professionals nationwide participated in a cook-off on Saturday as part of the School Nutrition Association's Child Nutrition Industry Conference, which runs through Tuesday. The event, at the Culinary Institute of America, was similar to a Food Network cooking competition, in which nutrition professionals sought to prepare appealing, cost-effective meals that are in line with federal standards. "We can't get too wild because kids don't eat it. You know it's got to look a little like what they're used to," said Melanie Konarik, a district director of child nutrition.
