A million more California children will soon be eligible for dental care under Medicaid, called Medi-Cal, further pressuring an already overburdened system, a report by The Children's Partnership says. The state is closing its Healthy Families insurance program for low-income children and transitioning them to Medi-Cal. The state should raise reimbursement rates for care, expand dental hygienists' scope of practice, educate the public about the availability of benefits and simplify the process of enrolling in Medi-Cal dental programs, the report's authors say.
