More than 50% of patients have not heard about medical imaging radiation in the news, according to a research letter published in JAMA Internal Medicine. Among patients who were aware of radiation exposure from CT and SPECT scans, 88% were not concerned about radiation and 85% underestimated how much radiation exposure was involved, the study said. "These data suggest that many patients have a limited ability to make well-informed decisions about imaging that involves radiation," researchers said.
