People with less than 5 ug/L of vitamin D in their blood had a 22% increased risk of type 2 diabetes onset compared with those whose vitamin D levels were higher than 22 ug/L, a study in Clinical Chemistry found. Participants who were at the lowest quartile of plasma vitamin D were 35% more likely than those in the highest quartile to have diabetes, researchers also noted.
