The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association has teamed up with a cancer organization to raise awareness about ovarian cancer via the new Veterinary Outreach Program. The often comfortable relationship between pet owners and veterinarians means owners may share personal health concerns with their veterinarian, who can then direct clients to resources, said veterinarian Kurt Klepitsch, the first member of the project. "This is an exciting program that we feel is quite natural given that human health and animal health are inseparable and are tied together," said AVMA CEO Dr. Ron DeHaven, who noted at the launch of the program that his own family had been touched by ovarian cancer.
