With the explosion of applications not expected to subside, and no better mechanism available for getting downloaders to look beyond the top-50 app charts, a new race of "zombie apps" with little chance of discovery could soon be flooding the app ecosystem, writes Darrell Etherington, citing two studies. Developers should look at characteristics such as addictiveness, strive for reviews that can lift rankings, and target the window when app users are most likely browsing for new titles to ensure their apps aren't zombies, Etherington adds.
