The University of Connecticut would receive about $1.5 billion from the state as part of the Next Generation Connecticut proposal, which seeks to use the money to increase enrollment, hire more faculty and open more science, technology, engineering and math facilities across the university's three campuses. Texas A&M University is following suit with its "25 by 25" initiative, which focuses on increasing the number of students majoring in engineering.
