Renewable-energy developers should be allowed to structure their operations as master limited partnerships, a form of business used by many oil and natural gas firms to reduce their tax burden, according to recommendations issued by the Business Roundtable. Legislation that would extend MLPs to renewables is expected to be introduced. "Congress should provide wind-powered electricity generation with a smooth transition to an era of unsubsidized competitiveness by extending the wind Production Tax Credit so that the benefit is gradually reduced and ultimately eliminated," the report stated.
