Texas-based Pioneer Green Energy has started the permitting process for building wind farms in Alabama's Cherokee and Etowah counties. The company's proposed Shinbone Wind Energy Center, in Cherokee County, would have eight turbines with a combined capacity of 18.4 megawatts, while the proposed Noccalula Wind Energy Center, in Etowah County, would feature as many as 40 turbines with a total capacity of 80 megawatts.
