The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, which issues grants to high-risk projects such as microbe-based biofuels, is drawing praise from GOP lawmakers once critical of it. "Small grants to help develop promising new technologies are a far better use of limited government funds than most of the other energy-related funding that was embedded in the 2009 stimulus," said a spokeswoman for Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who is among several Republican lawmakers scheduled to speak at the ARPA-E summit in Washington, D.C., this week.
