Texas-based utility Oncor expects to lay 600 miles of new transmission lines this year, in addition to the 400 miles that it has already completed under the state's Competitive Renewable Energy Zone initiative, a spokeswoman said. The CREZ project, which would bring wind power from West Texas into the Dallas/Fort Worth area and other urban areas, aims to build 3,500 miles of new transmission lines with a total capacity of 18,500 megawatts by the end of the year.
