The Department of Justice accused ATP Oil and & Gas of illegally releasing oil and an unauthorized chemical dispersant into the Gulf of Mexico from at least October 2010 to March 2012. ATP improperly operated a wastewater treatment system on its floating production platform in the Gulf, which led to the discharge of excess oil, the department said in a civil complaint filed in a federal court. The chemical dispersant was then added to the discharge to conceal the spill, the filing states.
