Massachusetts restored Medicaid coverage for some dental services for adults, including fillings in front teeth, in part because studies have shown people with good teeth have an easier time finding a job than their peers with poor oral health. Gov. Deval Patrick proposed completely restoring Medicaid dental benefits for adults by mid-2014. However, many providers limit the number of Medicaid patients they will treat, if any, due to low reimbursement rates and high administrative costs, potentially blunting the impact of the shift.
