Gender, age and stroke type factor into whether stroke patients get palliative care referrals, with older, female patients who had a primary intracerebral hemorrhage most likely to get services, Australian researchers reported in BMJ Supportive and Palliative Care. The most common reason for a referral was for end-of-life care, which the authors said may show that other health care professionals are not aware of the spectrum of palliative services available.
