Legally married same-sex spouses of military personnel are set to gain some of the privileges offered to heterosexual military dependents, though health and housing benefits are unlikely to be among them. The privileges, to be detailed this week, could include access to military base facilities such as commissaries and other family services. The Defense of Marriage Act, which bars federal recognition of same-sex married couples, is said to prevent the Pentagon from extending other spousal and family benefits to gay troops.
