Workers' compensation rates in the U.S. continued to drop last year, with the national median rate index at $1.88 per $100 of payroll, according to Oregon's 2012 Workers' Compensation Premium Rate Ranking Study. The report is based on National Council on Compensation Insurance risk-classification codes and states' data. "We were expecting to see a swing around, to see things start increasing," said Jay Dotter, co-author of the report.
