Home specialty retailer Kirkland’s reported net sales for the fourth quarter of $162.6 million, an increase of 9% over last year. Kirkland's opened 17 stores during the period and closed two, and saw a drop of 2.6% in comparable store sales.
U.S. consumer confidence in the economy held steady in January, according to the Discover U.S. Spending Monitor. While 49% of respondents indicated plans to spend less on movies, restaurants and other entertainment, the percentage of consumers planning home improvement purchases grew.
