The 2.3% medical device tax could force companies to shift up to 30% of their production overseas, which could cost up to 146,000 American jobs, economist Diana Furchtgott-Roth said in testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee last week. Furchtgott-Roth co-authored a 2011 AdvaMed study that estimated the excise tax could slash more than 43,000 jobs.
