A polystyrene ban in New York City would almost double food-service costs for businesses and cost consumers and businesses about $91.3 million annually, according to a study conducted by MB Public Affairs for the American Chemistry Council. Such a ban "would require businesses and consumers to switch to higher cost alternatives that are in many cases inferior to polystyrene products. And most importantly, it would have little to no impact on waste reduction or other environmental concerns," the report states.
