A recent study by AHIP, published in the American Journal of Managed Care, shows how increases in the prices of inpatient hospital care services are contributing to the rising health costs. Inpatient hospital care prices rose 8.2% annually from 2008 to 2010, with the highest increases in New York, Texas and Tennessee, at 10.5%, 9.3% and 8.8%, respectively. "To make health care coverage more affordable for consumers and employers, there needs to be a much greater focus on the underlying cost of medical care," said AHIP President and CEO Karen Ignagni.
