In contrast with much of NCAA men's basketball history, teams with bird-themed mascots are dominating the court this season, besting dogs and cats. Historically, bird-themed teams have performed poorly in the tournament, with a .489 win percentage as compared with teams with dog mascots at .496 and feline-represented teams at just over .500. This year's Sweet 16 includes the Golden Eagles, Cardinals and Jayhawks (a fictional hawk-blue jay hybrid).
