A breast-feeding promotion initiative significantly improved breast-feeding exclusivity at ages 3 and 6 months, compared with a control group, but did not lower the prevalence of obesity in children 11 years later, according to a study of more than 17,000 mother-infant pairs in Belarus. Researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association that breast-feeding seemed to have no impact on levels of serum insulin-like growth factor later in life.
