More dermatologists are using the MelaFind device to analyze potentially cancerous skin lesions in an effort to detect and treat cancer early. The device employs the same technology used to detect missiles, says dermatologist Susan Weinkle, ASDS' immediate past president. It compares lesion pigmentation and depth to a database of 10,000 moles to determine the likelihood that a lesion is melanoma, Weinkle says.
