Transforming U.S. health care requires changing the medical education system so students learn about new health care payment and delivery models, George Thibault, M.D., president of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, told an American Board of Family Medicine forum. Larry Green, M.D., founding director of AAFP's Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Primary Care, said physicians across the U.S. are working to change training programs, along with the main primary care residencies of family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.
