Amazon's Prime service, in which customers pay $79 a year for free two-day shipping and digital content, has proven a big win for the online retail giant. The cost to Amazon of Prime perks only marginally exceeds the fees it charges, and members increase spending by as much as 150%. The key, Brad Tuttle writes, is a price point that's not too expensive but is enough to spur increased spending to justify being a member.
Deckers Outdoors will launch its first UGG Australia footwear store on China's TMall next month and debut a dedicated China e-commerce site for the popular boot brand in May, the company said. The company has hired Vincent Lau to oversee efforts in the new position of e-commerce director for the Asia-Pacific region.
Some lawmakers who support the Marketplace Fairness Act say the measure, which would let states require online retailers to collect sales tax, must remain separate from larger tax reform if it has a hope of passing. Others, including co-sponsor Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., say the measure must be part of the bigger effort to close loopholes.
Nearly two-thirds of mobile users prefer visiting a retailer's website to downloading an application, a study by Siteworx said. Looking back to the holidays, only 3.4% of mobile users said they made purchases on their devices, while the equivalent number for tablets was 4%. The most popular shopping activity on mobile, however, was researching product reviews, which ranked just ahead of price comparisons.
Fashion fans living with regrets about past-season styles they didn't buy have a growing roster of options for tracking them down, including sites such as the Outnet and Paris-based Vestiaire Collective. "We deliberately don't list seasons on our site so that the customer can focus on the product, the brand and the quality," said Outnet director Stephanie Phair.
