Women, in particular, should focus on the STAR process to highlight their achievements during interviews, suggests Debra Lake at the Carroll University Center for Leadership Excellence in Waukesha, Wis. The STAR process requires candidates to think of a specific situation, a task that had to be done, the action taken and the results or what they learned from the project or task. "Often women feel uncomfortable taking credit for what they have done. If women take the time to go through it, they can shine," Lake notes.
