It is not uncommon for students to fear poetry, writes Amber Regis, a lecturer in 19th-century literature at the University of Sheffield in England. At issue, she writes in this blog post, is that poetry often comes across as too difficult to students. Regis writes that on World Poetry Day, which was celebrated March 21, and every day, it is important to "occupy" poetry, make it your own and -- perhaps -- help students less apprehensive about taking it on.
