Combining near-infrared fluorescence with hybrid imaging techniques such as PET/MR or SPECT/CT can help improve sentinel lymph node mapping ahead of and during surgery in patients with prostate cancer metastases, according to a study published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine. The imaging methods, while still being assessed for their potential in the clinical setting, may in the future provide surgical teams with a means to improve prostate cancer staging, researchers said.
