A study in the journal Psychiatric Services showed a substantial increase in the use of antipsychotic drugs among children and teens covered by Medicaid from 1997 to 2006. Researchers looked at 500,000 2- to 17-year-olds and found that Medicaid-insured youths were five times more likely to be prescribed such drugs than their privately insured peers.
