Amputee and prosthetic engineer Jonathan Kuniholm founded a company, Stumpworx, to address the tendency of upper-limb amputees to forgo a prosthesis because of poor fit and discomfort. Inspired by the evolution of sneaker design, Kuniholm has created a stiff, but flexible prosthetic arm socket that allows for more movement and accommodates changes in the size of the residual limb.
