Dedicating a lounge for cath lab patients undergoing routine procedures resulted in a nearly 50 percentage point increase in same-day PCI discharges over one year, according to findings from the London Chest Hospital published in the American Heart Journal. The rate of same-day discharge for elective PCI rose from 2.3% to 51.2% over the year, and the rate for those undergoing diagnostic angiography rose from 72.7% to 84.9%. The lounge is equipped with reclining chairs, televisions and Internet access, and patients remain dressed for discharge throughout their stay.
