The federal seizure of file-sharing site Megaupload in 2012 helped boost revenue from digital sales and movie rentals for two top Hollywood studios by 6% to 10% in a dozen countries, according to research by Brett Danaher and Michael Smith. The Justice Department filed charges more than one year ago against site founder Kim Dotcom and six others for allegedly circulating more than $500 million in copyrighted content. The report does not name the studios, which cooperated with researchers without having "editorial control or oversight."
