Small blue-bellied fish discovered in the Rio Negro, a tributary of the Amazon River, may be its own genus in addition to being a new species, researchers say. The Cyanogaster noctivaga, part of the Characidae family, has a transparent body, save for its head and vibrant blue belly. It also has an unusual mouth and set of teeth including a single conical tooth.
