Southern California Edison could safely restart the Unit 2 reactor of its San Onofre nuclear plant in California and have the unit operate at full capacity, according to a report prepared for SCE. However, it would be risky for the plant to maintain such power for more than 11 months because of possible tubing damage, the report stated. "This evaluation confirms the structural integrity of the Unit 2 steam generators at 100 percent power, as requested by the NRC," said Peter Dietrich, SCE's chief nuclear officer.
