Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, has proposed loosening federal regulations preventing the reimportation of prescription medicines, allowing HHS to negotiate drug prices and reducing the 12-year exclusivity period for biologic drugs. PhRMA senior vice president Matthew Bennett said the proposals could threaten drugmakers' ability to produce new life-saving medications, the safety of the drug supply and the success of the Medicare Part D program.
