A bipartisan group of four senators has revived efforts to exempt agents and brokers from the Affordable Care Act Medical Loss Ratio. The proposed legislation "will strengthen the Affordable Care Act, keep these small firms in businesses and protect this important service for consumers," said Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. The MLR restricts administrative costs in premiums to 15% for large groups and 20% for small groups, and agents agents say they have seen health product commissions slashed by as much as 50%.
