According to a source, Ryanair will purchase about 200 Boeing 737-800 jets and announce the deal soon. The Irish Independent reported that the $18 billion deal would likely include a discount for a bulk order of the older model. The airline says that the 737-800 incurs lower charges from the European Union.
British Airways is extending its hand-baggage-only discount on all short-haul routes out of London's Gatwick Airport. Last month, the carrier unveiled the program for flights to a few destinations for passengers who did not check any luggage.
Lufthansa is giving a little love to economy fliers with its "Nonstop You" program. Some of the perks that apply to families in economy include special boarding passes for children, strollers at the gate and the ability to be seated together during a flight.
Several airports in Spain will now charge for luggage carts as a way to recoup operating costs. The service costs $1.30 and will start at Barajas airport and expand to other airports including El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Gran Canaria.
